The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has chosen French/German, Gernot Rohr, as Super Eagles new technical adviser.Rohr, who took Gabon to the 2012 African Nations Cup, where they lost on penalties to Mali in the quarterfinal, is expected in Nigeria today to complete the contract signing formalities.

He is expected to watch the NPFL game between Ikorodu United and 3SC at the Onikan Stadium, Lagos, tomorrow.NFF President, Amaju Pinnick, said yesterday that Rohr was chosen ahead of six others because the federation wanted somebody, who has versed knowledge of African football and also knows the recent trends in the modern game.

“He is married to an African and has agreed tom stay here to help us develop our football holistically.“Rohr knows all the Algerian and Camerounian players, which will help the Super Eagles when we confront those countries in the World Cup qualifiers.

“His salary and other entitlements will not be a problem because we have secured sponsorship from three companies, who have deposited the money in Bismarck Rewane’s Financial Derivatives. The company will pay him directly from the sponsors’ funds,” he said.Until he accepted to work for Nigeria, Rohr, born in 1953, was working on development programmes for the German football association (DFB).

A former Bayern Munich star, he managed Girondins Bordeaux to the UEFA Cup final, where they lost to Bayern Munich over two legs, 0–2 away and 1–3 at home.[4] Bordeaux’s run to the final included a famous 3–0 win over AC Milan in the quarterfinals. He also served as sports director of Eintracht Frankfurt from October 1998 until April 1999.
