UNILORIN wins national debate contest
University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has won this year’s edition of the Masters’ Round Debate Tournament, the fifth in the series, held at University of Calabar (UNICAL).
It had won the fourth edition of the tournament last year at the same university. This year’s tournament, which held between March 29 and April 2 with over 80 participants from nine federal universities in the country, saw UNILORIN posting remarkable performances in the two categories of the intellectually-engaging competition.
The championship consisted of two categories at which UNILORIN presented four different teams, which proceeded to the semi-final stage. However, three of the teams eventually got to the final round.
The UNILORIN Hybrid Team Beetles, consisting Usman Ojone and Eze Nwakuba, eventually won the competition for the third consecutive time.
The second category of the championship, code-named Public Speaking Stream, featured six students of UNILORIN. Two reached the final stage and Olayemi Samuel won the trophy for the team.
