No fuel scarcity in Cross River, Akwa Ibom — IPMAN

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) in Cross River State has allayed residents’ fears of an impending fuel scarcity in the state and in the neighbouring Akwa Ibom State.

Recently, the spokesman of the Forum of Stakeholders in IPMAN, Calabar Depot, Mr. Joseph Akan, had in a statement said that due to harassment of members by security agents, the two states would soon experience fuel scarcity.

But Chairman of IPMAN in the state, Mr. Clement Edet Umana, yesterday, debunked the threat and advised members of the public to ignore it and go about their normal businesses. 

Umana whose leadership of IPMAN is recognised by the Elder Chinedu Okoronkwo-led national body of IPMAN said: “IPMAN is not embarking on any such industrial action, and I am not aware of any decision by the police to arrest any official of IPMAN in the state as we had resolved all internal issues amongst ourselves, with the national leadership and the state government intervening. 

“If the police is trailing Comrade Robert Obi who claims to lead a faction of IPMAN, he should go and resolve his problems as a law abiding citizen. I want to use this opportunity to allay fears of any suspected looming industrial action suggesting that IPMAN would soon embark on shutting supplies of petroleum products to Cross River and Akwa Ibom states. There is no such disposition.”
