IMMEDIATE past Senator for Abia Central Nkechi Justina Nwaogu , has announced her decampment from the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

She gave reasons for her decision as PDP’s alleged imposition of candidates, disregard for rule of law and high-handedness among others.

Speaking to journalists in Umuahia  Abia state capital at the weekend after she was formally received into the membership of the APC Senator Nwaogu  said those reasons were opposites of  what  democracy stood for.

Her words: “ Candidates for elective offices in a democracy must be decided by the people and  not by  one person or any Godfather. A situation where a governor or leader of a political party is the decider of somebody’s political fate caused the political demise of the PDP.

“Days are gone when the governor or leader of a political party would sit in an office and decide someone’s political fate including  who would ,  from Ward One to the 184 Wards in the state be councillor, council chairman , state and national  lawmakers .

“ I joined the APC because I know it comprises people who really want to truly develop this nation and change  the evil ways of the PDP and I  know that the APC will look at the hindsight of what happened in the PDP and not tow  this line”.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Sam Nkire who represented APC National Chairman  Chief John Odigie-Oyegun described Nwaogu as a ‘big fish’ caught by the APC.

Nwaogu was in the national assembly for three terms beginning at the House of Representatives to which she was  first elected on the platform of the defunct All Nigeria People’s Party(ANPP) before she later decamped to the PDP .
