Nigerian Bar charges Buhari on job creation, electric power generation

AlegehThe Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) has charged the Muhammadu Buhari’s administration to embark on massive job creation, power generation, infrastructural development and redefined fight against corruption.

The president of the association, Mr. Agustine Alegeh who made this known to newsmen in Lagos said those are part of the expectations of the NBA from the Buhari administration.

He said: “The administration must be ready to propose new laws to regulate conduct in the country. We believe that the agenda of this government must include setting out legislations that must be passed within the first 100 days. The APC must have policy direction with the National Assembly. In every developing country, it is the law that drives development. Funding of the judiciary has to be addressed.”

Alegeh stated that there is urgent need to sit down and review the laws. “We dont want to see well-intended government and policies that run contrary to the provisions of the law. We want government that respects rule of law. We advise the Buhari government to take seriously the issue of reviewing laws”, he stressed, adding that our oil industry is being run by those who do not have the interest of the people at heart.

He pointed out that the government needs to take a decisive action to stem the tide of corruption in the oil industry. His words: “The sufferings we are going through as a people is unbelievable. We condemn the present situation and also appeal to NUPENG and oil marketers to shield their swords.”

On the issue of the election, the NBA helmsman said the association believes it was largely peaceful. “We believe the elections were not perfect, but it was better than the previous ones. Prosecution of election offenders is important and we have offered a pro bono services in this regard but INEC is yet to avail us of lists of culprits”, he declared.

The NBA also commended the former president, Goodluck Jonathan for his early concession, which helped to douse tension as well as Buhari and Osinbajo for their victories at the polls.
