LEAP Africa’s forum raises tasks on risk management, growth

LEAP-Africa-1The need to centre the operational activities of organisations and their employees around the risk management principles was re-echoed at the 10th LEAP Africa’s CEOs forum, in Lagos, on Tuesday.

The event, hosted by LEAP Africa, Lafarge Africa Plc and Sterling Bank, which also converged over 800 well-known industry business leaders, entrepreneurs, as well as risk management experts in Nigeria’s business sector, was themed: “Staying Ahead: Maximizing Profits and Mitigating Risks.”

The forum also addressed risk management issues associated with Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), especially the importance of risk identification, assessment and analysis with a focus on minimizing loss of revenue.

The LEAP Africa’s board member and Google Country Manager, Juliet Chiazor, in her opening remarks, noted that the posture of a company regarding risk management should not be reduced to a checklist, but it should be imbibed in the DNA of a company and is the responsibility of all employees.

Also, the Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Lafarge Africa Plc, Guillaume Roux, harped on the need to encourage all to imbibe Lafarge’s practice of viewing risks as opportunities rather than threats.

The speakers at the event, drawn from seasoned entrepreneurs and business managers, include the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Nestle Nigeria Plc, Dharnesh Gordhon; Managing Director, WAPCO Operations, Lafarge Africa Plc, Mrs. Adepeju Adebajo; Managing Director of Custodian and Allied Insurance Limited, Oluwole Oshin; Executive Director, Finance and Strategy, Sterling Bank Plc, Abubakar Suleiman; and Founder/Managing Director of JNC International Nigeria Limited, Mrs. Clare Omatseye, and moderated by Managing Director, RiskWatch Insurance Brokers, Mrs. Morin Desalu.

Topical at the forum was also how to manage financial and currency risks in the Nigerian and Global Business Landscape as well as supply chain, operations and sales risks in Nigerian Business Landscape.

Custodian and Allied Insurance boss, Oshin, who spoke on the importance of insurance and other formal risk mitigation strategies as well as how to build a risk management culture, highlighted the importance of insurance policies and its benefits to SMEs.
