FEDERAL Ministry of Culture, Tourism and National Orientation in Nigeria will spend N100 million on carnivals this year.

The allocation will be spent on three carnivals, namely Abuja (N80m), Durba (N10m) and Calabar carnivals (N10m).

The 2015 budget allocation on carnivals is 35 percent short of the 2014 budget which was N154 million, according to the 2014 Federal Appropriation Budget.

Generally, the appropriated 2015 budget is N200 billion short of the previous year.

Notwithstanding, the budget for Abuja carnival rises by 8 percent from the last year budget of N74million, while Calabar budget of N15 million last year is cut down by 33 percent. Only the budget for Durba carnival for 2015/2014 remains unchanged at N10 million.

In 2014, other carnivals such as Osun Osogbo Festival, Arugungu Fishing Festival, Mmanwu Festivals got N15 million each while Bada Fishing Festival and Ekpe Heritage Festival got N5million each, as stated in the 2014 Appropriation Budget. None of these festivals get allocation this year.
