As part of effort celebrating democracy in Nigeria, ride-hailing app, Taxify has called on young Nigerians to as a matter of urgency get their permanent voters card (PVC) ahead of next year’s election.

Taxify stressed that the journey to a better Nigeria is in the hands of those who have their PVCs.

Millennials, including first time voters make up a significant portion of Taxify’s rider base and according to Taxify’s City Manager, Uche Okafor: “We believe cities and countries work best when everybody has a say. We are excited by the conversations happening both on and offline. Young Nigerians are perhaps for the first time interested in taking charge of their futures and in celebration of democracy day, we want to make the journey to getting a PVC hassle free for everyone.”

The campaign, promoted via a website www.mypvcjourney.com helps users find the Permanent Voter Card (PVC) registration center closest to them – urges them to take a pledge to complete the process and offers a free ride to the location.

Tapping on “Find Your PVC Centre” will direct you to a webpage, powered by Google. Enter in your address, find the closest center to you and take the pledge to complete the process. Taxify will then send you an email giving you a free ride to your designated PVC Registration Centre and showing its hours of operation.

Taxify has said that it would continue to push notifications directing users to register. “What could you do in the three minutes it takes for your Taxify to arrive? How about starting the process of getting your PVC? Around two-in-every-three eligible 18- to 26-year-olds are still not registered. Put simply, that means they are missing out on having their say,” it stressed.
