Students of Bowen University under New Horizons mentorship initiative have launched a campus eSecurity app to bridge security communication gap and ensure social responsibility in the school.

Speaking during the Bowen University’s Innovation & Entrepreneurship Revolution conference, organised by New Horizon in collaboration with the institution, the Project team leader and a 200Level Medicine and Surgery student, Akinluwa Mercy, said the app will boost safety and security efforts of the institution.

She added that issues of drugs, security announcements, lost but found items are functions that the app seeks to address. “It’s a two way communication system with options that allow security officials, staff and students to upload security information. This app will drastically reduce crime rates in the school.”

Bowen University of the Nigerian Baptist Convention recently launched its Innovation and Entrepreneurship Revolution Hub at a one week programme on the campus. The highlight of the week was the executive session that exposed students to the secrets of Start-up Businesses.

Speakers at the event included ORACLE (ECEMEA) Architecture Innovation and Strategy, Dr Femi Oyenuga; Founder, Nextzon Organisation, Macauley Atasie; Managing Director, New Horizons Nigeria, Tim Akano and an ex-Bowenite, also the Co-founder and CEO of Plato Hub, an ex-Bowenite who is the Co-founder and CEO of Plato Hub, Samuel Ekpe.

Vice-Chancellor, Bowen University, Prof. Joshua Ogunwole, said that the institution has re-engineered the students learning from mere academic excellence, to a holistic offering that includes academic excellence, practical-based entrepreneurship and innovative skills acquisition.

Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. John Akande, he said graduates of the institution are now better positioned to be wealth creators.

Meanwhile, Managing Director, New Horizon, Tim Akano, has offered $6,000 to the best three problem-solving ideas that will positively impact the university, country and the world at large.

Adding that the seed funding is under the “Start-Up Campus” (SUC) scheme, Akano urged the students to be innovative and prepared to solve problems rather than complain about unsalvoring situations.

He added that his organisation will support the Bowen Entrepreneurship & Technology Hub as an annual event through project development mentorship and launch to reputable industry practitioners for adoption, funding and projects commercialisation.
