NITDA, TETFund partner to stimulate educational development

National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) have signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that seeks to provide emerging technologies in tertiary institutions, to improve the quality of education in Nigeria.

The MoU which is an Intervention Programmes in Educational Development in the Area of Emerging Information Technology (IT) and Digital Inclusion”, is aimed at fostering Digital Inclusion, Increases Operational Efficiency in Tertiary Institutions, and promote Research and Learning in Emerging Technologies.

Speaking at the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), Isa Pantami, out-gone director general NITDA said that “collaboration is needed to move Nigeria forward, as no Government Agency can deliver on its Mandate in Silos”, adding that “Information Technology can enhance operational efficiency in our Tertiary Institutions, digitalise activities and promote Research and Learning, in line with global best practices”.

The DG further called for the adoption of Blockchain Technology in Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria, stressing that the technology can alleviate most of the challenges faced, as data integrity is 100% guaranteed.

On his part, the Executive Secretary of TETFund, Prof. Suleiman Elias Bogoro commended NITDA under the leadership of Dr Pantami for promoting IT adoption in Nigeria’s Tertiary Institutions, stating that almost all the Institutions are beneficiaries of one or more of NITDA’s ICT Intervention projects.

It will be recalled that earlier in the month the DG signed five Regulatory Instruments into law, among them included the “Framework and Guidelines for ICT Adoption in Tertiary Institutions”, which is targeted at ensuring a systemic and coherent adoption of ICT in Tertiary Institutions.
