Minister urges Nigeria to look beyond oil as revenue source

For Nigeria to exit the economic recession she must look beyond crude oil as sole revenue source. The Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu has said.
Speaking in Abuja at the opening of the 32nd Annual National Conference/Scientific Workshop of the Nigerian Institute of Science Laboratory Technology (NISLT), Onu said it was imperative for the country to begin preparation for a post-crude oil economy.
He said this would guard the economy against slipping further into recession.He stressed that systematic utilisation and application of science and technology has the capacity to improve the living standards of Nigerians and the economy.
The minister was represented by the Director of Science and Technology Promotion in the ministry, Ekanem Udoh.Acting Registrar/Director General of NISLT, Mr. Yemi Gbadegesin said the institute had resolved to improve the capacity of its members to achieve quality laboratory system in all aspects of the economy and reduce reliance on crude oil.

The problem with Nigeria is that people in leadership position like the ministers are just talking and not really taking action. This is the same minister that discovered that a pencil maker in SE had their equipment stuck at the point. has he made any effort to help them get that machine, and order his ministry to purchase all their pencils from this maker. The same minister has said that Nigeria research entity need to start commercializing their research. how many of those research has the minister sold to private investors to commercialize. There is a need to stop talking and requesting Nigeria do their part, when we have minister and lawmakers not doing what is necessary to help the country.
