LAGOS State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Mrs. Olusola Oworu, has challenged EATON, a power management company, to consider setting up a manufacturing plant in Lagos, the commercial hub centre of the country, having established its presence Nigeria.

The commissioner, gave this charge during EATON’s Technology Day in Lagos, organised by the company to drive sustainable growth in the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector in West Africa, promised the company of government support, should it consider the challenge of establishing a manufacturing plant in Lagos.

The President, Electrical Sector for Europe, Middle East and Africa, Frank Campbell said his firm appreciates such challenge, but explained that it is still studying the Nigerian market, since it established its presence in the country last year.

“The plan to establish a manufacturing plant in Nigeria is a future plan, and this will be after we must have gotten our market share in terms of distribution of our solutions to support businesses in five industry segments such and Data Centre and Information Technology, Oil and Gas, Electrical Utilities, Mining, Solar and Wind.”

The West Africa Sales Manager, Electrical Sector for EATON,  Charles Iyo, said

“The sustainable growth of the ICT sector in Nigeria and West Africa is dependent on developing innovative technologies to solve the sector’s toughest power management challenges.”

“Our vision is to establish EATON as one of the premier power management companies in the region providing customized, innovative solutions that enable our customers in Nigeria and West Africa’s burgeoning telecommunications sector to use power more reliably, efficiently, safely and sustainably,” Iyo said.

EATON’s Managing Director, Africa, Electrical Sector, Shane Kilfoil, said data usage and demand in Nigeria and West Africa, is on the increase, thus giving rise to the number of cellphones and cellphone users in the country, which he said, called for increased data centres that must be managed with better solutions that EATON bring to Nigeria.

“The West Africa Technology Day represents another key milestone in Eaton’s 78 year history in Africa. Technology Days are one of the most important platforms Eaton uses to raise market awareness of the company’s extensive power management capabilities and we are delighted to host it in Lagos where we can showcase our innovative solutions to our customers from Nigeria and Western Africa,” said Kilfoil.

According to Oworu, “sustainability and energy-efficiency are vital requirements for the economic viability of businesses around the world. As Nigeria works to continue and accelerate its economic promise, we are pleased to be hosting a premier power solutions provider like EATON, for the benefit of business and economic development across Nigeria and the West Africa region.”
