The Press Emblem Campaign (PEC), a Geneva-based non-governmental organisation with special consultative status with the United Nations, has described 2023 as the deadliest year in the last 10 years with the killing of 140 journalists during the year.

Last week my colleagues in the media industry bestowed on me the treasured trophy of honour twice, first on Thursday in Lagos and next on Friday in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
