UEC Maiden ‘Mothering Sunday’ held in eight superintendencies

The history of this event can be traced from a distant past where some families that could not take adequate care of their children due to poverty. Their children were given out to handy families to serve them.

After some time a Sunday was set aside yearly when these children would be allowed to go home to visit their parents and as they walk home they picked beautiful flowers along the road as special gifts for their mothers to appreciate them for such a wonderful day, so with this, such Sunday was, therefore, tagged: “Mothering Sunday” – which has improved these days to celebrate motherhood in the church.

The aim of this is to celebrate and encourage mothers in our churches, to raise fund to support some projects in the church and foster the growth of the church.

Here it is happening in Umule Superintendency, first in its history and in United Evangelical Aba Area conference. The service, which comprised church officers and 10 churches started at 11am.

The chief servant, Rev. U.N. Nwadiuko together with other ministers were present when the service was declared open by Rev. U.N. Nwadiuko. During the service, the President of Aba Area women Fellowship arrived, Deaconess Nkechi Erondu with two others – Deaconess Theresa Ahiwe and Charity Nwekpe to grace the occasion.

The fellowship featured special songs rendered by the women fellowship choir, and the Scripture reading was taken from 1 Samuel 25 and Esther 4. The speaker of the day, Deaconess Favour Nwadiuko preached on the topic: “Wives As Stabilisers.” She cited the roles of Abigail and Esther to challenge the mothers to rise and set a pace in their generation. Series of prayers were also offered for the church, homes and entire society. The service drew many personalities to the church within and outside the state.

We, therefore, say bravo to the mothers in Umule Superintendency led by the President, Deaconess Ogechi Igara and Secretary, Deaconess Gift Nwogu as well as the Excos and planning committee for such a wonderful service.
