Children have been advised to be creative, idealistic and goal-oriented in their educational pursuit.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and founder of Kidpreneur Africa (KEA), Mrs. Juliet Vincent Obi, gave the advice while hosting an event to nurture, mentor and groom kids to become entrepreneurs.

The event, held in Ikeja, Lagos had kid entrepreneur business class sessions for children aspiring to be entrepreneurs and those that already have their own businesses.

Speaking of achieving goals at the event, she explained to the children that it is important to make out time for themselves to be able to achieve great things.

She said: “In order to achieve your goals, making out time for your goal achievement is compulsory. You have to create time schedule and also have an accountability partner for setting your goals in life.

“Planning your actions is also part of achieving your goals. Drawing a practical timetable for your future will take you to great heights. You must also put a stop to certain things you feel might not be of help in achieving set goals.”

She told the young participants that goal setting requires determination and perseverance.

She said: “You set goals so that you will be focused and not be distracted. Goals setting helps you maximise your time, as well as helps you do your work without stress.

“Setting goals on what you want to improve on is equally necessary. A lot of people don’t achieve their goals because of a lack of commitment. So, setting a guideline in order to achieve your goal is through using the S.M.A.R.T goal, which stands for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Time-bound.”

She said having one’s own business requires looking at some existing business ideas that can be of benefit to the individual, as an entrepreneur.

“Having a product-driven business requires you to do something for yourself to make it in life,” she explained. “Getting involved in different businesses requires skills and ideas.

“Having different skills and ideas is something that has to be learned gradually. For instance, shirt designing, painting, baking, producing scented candles and smoothies, among others, are all production processes that are achieved through skills.”

According to Mrs. Obi, an idea comes from someone’s imagination, inspiring what to produce.

“You have to have an idea of what you want to produce before venturing into it,” she noted.

On public speaking, she explained how the children should face their fear when delivering a speech.

“Don’t be nervous about anyone around you. Be bold, so as not to attract attention. Speak confidently, so that your audience can hear what you are saying,” she said.
