It is either we pray or we refuse to pray and perish. Prayer has preemptive power. It jumps ahead of Satan to stop something he had intended doing. And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison. Acts 12:6

Herod had it all worked out to kill Peter and John. He was sure it was a done deal, after all, he had killed James but the church prayed and it was prevented. And he killed James the brother of John with the sword. Acts 12:2
High causalities occur when the church does not pray. Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.

And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands. Acts 12; 5,7. Peter was supernaturally released because the church prayed. 2019 is at the corner, we must pray now. Somebody dear to me told me recently that the husband queried her for praying and she replied, “If I don’t pray (talk) to God who do I pray to?” No matter what, I must pray, even if it means asking for His mercy because prayer is my lifeline.

Pray without ceasing. 1 Thessalonian 5:17
Prayer is the simple act of talking to God and we ought always to pray (Luke 18:1). I wonder what life would have been without this golden opportunity and privilege to have God intervene in our affairs through prayers.

When I say prayer, I do not mean the normal traditional ‘oriki’ we do all over Nigeria, which many have transferred to the church and feel good at the emotion of it. I mean praying to God with scriptures according to His Will.Though prayers are not a substitute for working, thinking, planning or giving, it is the basic foundation for every other thing we do in Christ. It must come from your secret place, (Romans 8:26-27) where no one but God sees you. If you make prayer another religious activity like ‘oriki,’ you will never experience the tremendous power made available through prayers.

And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness. And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things, which he possessed, was his own; but they had all things common.

And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold. Acts 4:31-34.

Prayer is the fuel that keeps you going. Whether you are happy or sad, pray. Whether you are eating or not, pray. Because whatever you have and will have, whether you are and will be has been by somebody’s prayers or your prayers and prayers will sustain you. You may not know this until you stop praying and help of men to pray for you are removed.

When you come before God in prayers, come with the right attitude. Be real; don’t try to impress God because He knows who you are. Express your love for Him and commit yourself to His Will. So, you can finish your race well and say, I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. 2 Timothy 4:7-8.
