The price of conspiracy

The story is about King David and his son Absalom. This story is fascinating, but I won’t go into all the details, so you can read through in 2 Samuel from chapter 13 – 18.

Absalom was one of David’s sons, who was banished for killing the person that raped his sister.

After Absalom returned to Jerusalem, he planned on stealing the kingdom from his dad, and with the help of Ahithophel, his influence, became stronger on the people. Although all his plans worked, but he lost his life and that of his friends in the end, because he rebelled against his father.

Lessons to learn
• Be patient with God: Don’t be in a hurry to enjoy life. There’s a set time for everything. Absalom couldn’t wait for the throne. He wanted to overthrow his father and he lost his life in the process.

• Don’t rebel against your parent: Rebellion against parents is painful, not just to the parents, but also to the child in the end. The Bible says, “Honour your parents, so that your days may be long on earth.” You cannot rebel against your parents and prosper.

• Have an unconditional love: Absalom did different hurtful things to destroy his dad, but it never changed anything about David’s love for him.

• Don’t be selfish: Absalom’s selfishness made him less concerned about the lives of his friends and followers. All he cared about was how to become king.

• Don’t strike back: When people conspire against you, don’t fight back. Let God fight for you, because with God your victory is sure.

• Discipline: Parents must discipline their children, so long they are under their authority. Proverbs 23:3 “Withhold not this from the child, for if you strike and punish him with rod, he will not die.”

The conspiracy against a child of God cannot stand, because one with God is majority. He cares for His own. Remember if God be for you, no conspiracy can work against you.

The Bible didn’t say they will not gather, but when they gather, just like Ahithophel, God will turn their counsel into foolishness.
