To ensure that Christians maintain a life of holiness that is acceptable to God, they have been advised to re-examine their standing before The Almighty, as well as overcome idolatry and renew their mind in Christ. The call was made in a communiqué issued at the end of the 5th Synod of the Diocese of Lagos Mainland, Anglican Communion held between May 24 and 27 in Lagos.

In the communiqué signed by the Diocesan Bishop, Rt. Rev. Akinpelu Johnson and Synod Secretary, Ven. Dr. Emmanuel Adekoya, the Synod affirms God’s dominion over human affairs and calls for unwavering submission to the Holy Spirit’s guidance in all situations, as it is redeeming, rewarding, right and restorative to do so.

Themed: Who is on the Lord’s side? Let him come to me, the Synod admonished Nigerians to note that even in the midst of challenges and pressure, they must be reminded of God’s call. It enjoined all to shun idolatry but pursue the calling assigned to each one by God, just as different parts of the body work together towards achieving common goals.

The Synod also urged Christians not to conform to the world. The event also served to announce the creation of a choral music school as tool for spiritual nourishment, evangelism and youth empowerment, as well as the establishment of an Industrial Chaplaincy to assist youths through encouragement of Anglicans, who are employers and mentors.

Named The Dr. Thomas King Ekundayo School of Music, it was established in memory of the Church Master of choral music that lived from 1884 to 1969.

It also announced the establishment of an Industrial Chaplaincy to assist youths with employment through encouragement by church members that are employers and mentors.

The communiqué said the chaplaincy is to also provide them with a Diocesan database and develop a relationship with organisations within their geographical boundaries for mutual benefits.
