Speakers at BSN lecture task Nigerians, media on successful elections

The General Secretary, Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN), Dr. Dare Ajiboye has urged the electorate not to sell their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), as that will determine who rules Nigeria in the next dispensation. He also admonished the media to be sincere in its reportage during the elections.

Ajiboye spoke at the 11th BSN Founder’s Day Annual Lecture/Awards Ceremony attended by dignitaries including the Publisher/Chairman of The Guardian, Lady Maiden Alex-Ibru, who chaired the occasion; President, BSN, Dr. Aaron Nuhu; Managing Partner, Olaniwun Ajayi LP, Professor Konyinsola Ajayi, one of the speakers; President, The Apostolic Church Nigeria, Pastor Sampson Igwe and Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, First Registrar & Investment Services Limited, Pastor ‘Bayo Olugbemi, among others.

Themed: “Politics Beyond Ethnicity, Nepotism and Sectionalism: A Duty for the Nigerian Press and the Electorates,” held in Lagos, Ajiboye said the event was organised to mark the 53rd Anniversary of BSN and to contribute its quota to the affairs of Nigeria with topical issues around the elections that would enlighten Nigerians on how to vote right.

He said: “The theme of this lecture is saying voting should not be along religious or ethnic divide because elections in Nigeria had gone beyond the issue of tribalism, sectionalism and nepotism. Voting should be on merit.

“We organised this event to also inform the press that it is its duty and that of the electorate to determine how a country is governed, and that those who are to lead us should not determine how we should be governed, as is being practiced.”

Others who spoke at the event include BSN’s President, Dr. Aaron Nuhu and Managing Partner, Olaniwun Ajayi LP, Professor Konyinsola Ajayi, SAN.

Nuhu said the Bible is useful in all aspects of human life, including the spiritual, social and political. He explained that the Bible is at the centre of everything in Nigeria.

President, The Apostolic Church Nigeria, Pastor Sampson Igwe and Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, First Registrar & Investment Services Ltd., Pastor ‘Bayo Olugbemi were both honoured with the award of selfless service to God and humanity.
