This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare; Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck: 1Timothy 18-19.

Every child of God saved by grace is called to serve. You were not saved to sit and be a supervisor or a judge in the church. You were saved by the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross; it is expected of you to serve him as your Lord in every good capacity.

To serve in a church, which is the body of Christ is a privilege, which no one should take for granted.

However, many have been given opportunities to serve and have abused it by handling the work with levity, carelessly, not seeking to know what the Lord wants them to do and how He wants them to do it thereby making a shipwreck of their faith. Every pastor wish to have a church labourer as Timothy, which Paul was not afraid to call his ‘son’.

The church is a large house where we have different types of people, which must work together for the progress of the church, the body of Christ.

Within this large house, those who have volunteered to use their talents and skill to work for God must bring themselves under the authority of the leader or else they are on a downward journey to making a shipwreck of their faith and lives. Those who obey the rules as laid down by the authority of the church enjoy peace now and in the future (Galatians 6:16).

The race of this kingdom has standard and rules, which God himself gave. Everyone must run his race to win so that it will be said of him,’ well done, thou faithful servant.’ It means for you not to miss your mark in this race, you must run in your path (Hebrews 12:1). You must run and do your work according to instruction (men that do not follow instruction get destroyed) – 2 Timothy 2:1-7.

As a Christian, you must be aware there are clouds of witnesses, people that have taken you as a model (Hebrews 12:1) so that you don’t become a disgrace to the church you represent.  That is why you must be careful in your office and not see yourself as the best, or indispensible; there are people waiting to take over your office. Don’t forget God always have a remnant.

You must not entangle yourself with the affairs of this world; you must endure hardship as a good soldier of Christ. A good soldier obeys and adheres to instruction according to the word of Apostle Paul to Timothy.

It is not enough to join the race, run the race, or get to the end; but to run the race and get to the finish line according to the rules or else you will be disqualified (2 Timothy 2:14-18; 2 Timothy 2: 20-26:  1 Timothy 1:4-10, 1 Timothy 1:18-20).
