Wife of the Bishop of Lagos West, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Mrs. Lydia Olukemi Odedeji has urged the government to improve living standard of the people by revamping the economy.

Mrs. Odedeji, who made this known in her presidential address at the 20th yearly Women’s Conference of the Diocese of Lagos West held in Lagos, noted that with all the monetary and fiscal policies in place, if the issue of power is not solved permanently, good economic footing may continue to elude the nation.

Speaking on the theme: ‘A Call to Godly Living,’ Odedeji lamented that so much resource was pumped into power sector yet the impact is not seen across the country. According to her, “Many known viable companies have had to relocate to Ghana and some other African countries with steady power supply.

On education, she said the state of primary, secondary and tertiary institutions is pathetic and called on the government to address the decay.

The wife of the Bishop, who also fielded questions on insecurity in the land, said: “Nigeria is listed number five among countries with serious security challenges. We, therefore, call on the government to reconsider the recommendations of 2014 National Conference on the need to have state police.”

Also in his speech, Chairman of the Conference, Dr. Obaro Odeghe charged Christian women to exhibit Godly character. He added that a Godly woman is a woman who considers God in everything and does everything in the way of God. Godliness, according to him, means devotion to God.

He said: “Devotion is not an activity, but an attitude towards God. Devotion has three essential elements: the fear of God, the love of God and the desire for God.”
