Ndukuba urges corrupt Nigerians to repent

Primate of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Most Rev Henry Ndukuba has described corrupt individuals, whether in the church, mosque, government and anywhere else, as an enemy of God and the people. 

Ndukuba, who spoke with journalists in Abuja, supported his assertion with quote from the scripture, insisting that those that engage in corrupt practices will not inherit God’s Kingdom.

Explaining that corruption is a terrible enemy that is rooted in the fallen nature of man, the Primate said: “We find reasons to justify evil and that must stop in Nigeria. Until we begin to have a national guideline for behaviour, attitude, and whatever we are asked to do; and the people’s expectations are respected, we may not make any headway. Corruption is when an individual uses the advantaged position or resources at his disposal, meant for the good of all for his personal interests, to the detriment of the society, community and nation.”

He noted that corruption is a problem of the mind and not due to poverty or suffering. He warned that the wicked would surely be punished, either here on earth or at the judgment throne of God, where everyone would stand to give account.

He called on religious and political leaders to do a thorough and objective self-examination, turn to God and stop taking advantage of others in the various aspects of life. 

He also urged those in authority to address the issue of insecurity in Nigeria, so that the nation can make progress.

He decried that critical infrastructures were being attacked, with no one being held responsible, saying this would gradually destroy the nation. He enjoined government and security agencies to stand up to their responsibilities and help Nigeria move forward. 

He prayed for the country, saying Nigeria would prosper, as God has a special interest in the nation and the role it will play in Africa and the world.
