The pupils of Molan International School, Ikotun, Lagos, recently proved to their parents/guardians, guests and sports lovers, who witnessed their 3rd biennial inter-house sport competition that they are not only good in academics, but are equally talented in the areas of tracks and fields.

At the end of the event, which held in the school’s sports ground, Ruby House (Red House) beat Topaz (Yellow House), Sapphire (Blue House) and Emerald (Green House) to emerge in first position.

The winning team, Ruby, had a total of 30 medals (nine gold, 12 silver and nine bronze medals).

Topaz, which came second, had 25 medals (nine gold, nine silver and seven bronze medals).

Taking the third place, Sapphire won 20 medals (nine gold, six silver and five bronze medals), while Emerald got 19 medals (four gold, four silver and 11 bronze medals) to come fourth.

The teaching and non-teaching staff, parents, old students, as well as athletes from invited schools were not left out, as they participated in the 100-metre and relay races. They went home with medals and gifts for their efforts.

The proprietress, Mrs. Agnes Afolabi, said education shouldn’t be limited to the four walls of the classroom, and that sports help the child to have a sound mind and body.

She urged parents to encourage their children/wards to engage in sporting activities and develop their talents in other areas of life.

She said: “Gone are the days parents encourage their children to only read their books without paying attention to other areas of life.

“Some rich people in the world today are footballers and athletes. They are popular and are comfortable in life. So, everything is not limited to the classroom, as we all cannot be accountants, bankers or medical doctors.

“Gone are the days people say sports and the likes are for lazy people or lay-about. Sport is key in the upbringing and upkeep of any child.”
