Text: John 19:28-30

Key Verse: John 19:28, “After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.” (KJV)

The Gospel announces the victory of Jesus over Satan. Any Gospel that keeps you in fear of Satan is not the gospel. The Gospel is the power of God over Satan and sin. It announces that Satan has been defeated and under our feet. The Gospel is that Jesus has died and resurrected and that the devil has been defeated. Whenever we preach the gospel, it is the power of God is announced.

Sin brought curses upon mankind, but Jesus took away these curses, which sin brought upon us, by dying on the cross for the redemption of mankind. Therefore, we are redeemed from these curses by the death of Christ (Galatians 3:13). Jesus gave His life as ransom for us, so that we might be saved (Matthew 20:28); He took our poverty upon Himself that we should not be broke again (2 Corinthians 8:9) and He took our sicknesses upon Himself that we were healed (Isaiah 53:5).

Jesus’ death on the cross got total victory and freedom for us. After His death, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, said it is finished: and He bowed His head, and gave up the ghost (John 19:30). Jesus’ victory was not an incomplete victory but it accomplished “all things.” The Bible affirmed this incontrovertible fact, when it said in 2 Peter 1:3, “According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue.”

There is nothing missing in God because God Has provided already everything you need to live a stress-free life on earth and live a life pleasing to God. All that you need to live a successful and victorious life here on earth and make Heaven at last has already been provided for. Jesus died our death so that we will not perish in Hell but have eternal life.

One may ask since God Has won the victory for us and given us all that pertain to life and Godly living, why are all men not saved/why do we still have some poor people among us and why are many sick? The answer is because they have not responded in faith to receive all that is made available (Roman 10:9).

Prayer is the connection that opens the door to all of the “Graces” made available. In other words, prayer is the connecting link through which we receive all that has been made available to us by the finished work of Christ.

The phrase “it is finished” means it is a done deal. The spiritual transaction has been completed and the victory has been won. Therefore, we must maintain our stance on the victory that Jesus has won for us and nothing else. Since Jesus has won, you don’t pray for victory but pray from victory to victory. The devil’s trick is to perpetually keep us in ignorance of the fact that Jesus has won, but we have to stand on the victory that Jesus had already obtained for us.

Spiritual warfare is maintaining a stance on the finished work of Christ. We need to pray with the understanding that Jesus had won the victory for us, and we are not begging for the victory but that we are claiming the victory. We already have the victory, so we don’t pray for victory. But we pray to maintain the victory that Jesus had already obtained for us.
