Little Minds Big Things is a handmade greeting card business run by cousins. It all started when two cousins, Ona Ogbuefi (age 11) and Kobi Ajene (age 8), thought that it would be fun to make greeting cards and sell them for money.

Their parents were always telling them that in the future they would need to get jobs to make money. They thought it would be a good idea to start early. Ona was enrolled in a business camp in the summer of 2016 and It was at that camp that Ona learned the skills necessary to start and run a business.

They got to work with the help of some family members, Kene Ogbuefi (age 13) and Solu Ajene (age 11). Kobi had the great idea to spread the word about their business by giving free cards to the children in their school and the approached the principal.

Kobi also advertised their cards to guests that often visited their family house. Kobi used his charisma and advertising skills to convince people to buy their product.

Five months after they had started their business they found out about the Kid Entrepreneurship Fair on Instagram. Kobi’s mom and Ona’s Aunt signed them up for the fair which was held at Filmhouse in Lekki on December 16, 2017 . She madespecial t-shirtswith their logo for the entire family and bought the card supplies needed to create the cards.

Kene was given the task to design and decorate the stand so he made a poster While Solu assisted in the drawings. It was a real team effort and together they designed, cut and pasted a total 20 cards. Most of the cards were Christmas cards but there were other celebration cards like birthday cards, Easter and we even had a failed attempt to make slime.

It was really cool to participate in the fair because it was for children and very exciting. There were loads of families attending with various stands like clothing, paintings, smoothies, food and jewelry.

Our stand played Christmas carols to excite people and we had some milo cubes to give as freebies. My aunt had invite a few of her friends and family members to support us.

Cousins Udenna and Amara Nwuneli came to help out and also Cousin Abi and Eze Sagna who also had a stall selling smoothies were nearby.

During the fair, we divided the responsibilities first Ona was to write out receipts for customers while Kene and Solu took turns collecting cash. Kobi and Amara did a good job getting more people to our stand. Most of our cards were sold from a price range of 200- 500Naira and somebody even placed an order for extra cards.

Overall we learnt the importance of sales, marketing, making profit and displaying our arts and crafts. It was a successful event and we are excited about what the future holds.
