Leadership and time management: Its effectiveness in realisation of the vision of an organisation – Part 4

Continued From Last Week
(1) Moses also took God’s grace on his life for granted, by being angry without caution, with the people that God gave him to lead. He was to speak to the rock, whilst holding his rod, but because of this anger, he struck the rock with the rod and lost his leadership. One might be forced to say it was not his fault. But for those that work faithfully with God (Like Abraham), they will know better, that one cannot do “more” or “lesser” than how God has mandated us to do. When God says, “stop,” you must immediately stop. When He says, “take two steps” and one takes an inch more than the two steps, it may anger Him to the level of using someone else.

In the first time in Exodus 17, God instructed Moses to strike the rock and he did, with water gushing out for people to drink. But the second time, God told him to speak to the rock in Numbers 20:8-12, but rather, he struck the rock, which made God to be angry with him.

Consequences to Moses
This caused Moses the grace of getting to the Promised Land. It was painful though, but God do not waiver in His instructions. It was to also let us know that, there is no creature of God He does not have a replacement for. Therefore, when He is using us, we must guard against complacency and be watchful, as time is of essence in leadership.

Effective time Management
When we are saddled with leadership responsibilities, the first thing that we should have at the back of our mind is how to maximise the limited time, for the actualisation of the growth of our organisation.

Whilst each church denomination has its peculiarity as to leadership succession, one thing is certain: if a leadership is not changed by the constitutional provisions of age limit, death will forcefully change it. Therefore, one must be thinking of what people will say in terms of our achievement after leaving the stage. In addition, there are different levels in leadership. Therefore, at the level that each of us has attained, we must know that we are also leaders to some people and ensure that we do things appropriately and within the time limit set for us. Anything contrary to this is leadership failure.

So many African leaders have failed, not because they were not good, but because they were not conscious of time and posterity. This lack of time consciousness, as mentioned in the opening paragraphs, is what make people to pursue personal and selfish interest; making them to create personal goals above organisational goals; giving them the audacity to create impunity in their leadership; making them to focus most times on their imaginary enemies; giving them the room to listen to rumour-mongering and backbiting; and making them to operate without any agenda and strategic plans for their organisation.

Furthermore, as Christian leaders, we should guard against things that will make us to set agenda outside the vision of Christ for His church. We must equally avoid working outside the guidance of the Holy Spirit (John 16:12-15). We must not allow things of the flesh (earthly things) to determine our actions (Romans 8:9. We must avoid monetising the gift of the spirit (Acts 14:25) and we must not be friendly with the world (James 4:4).

If we take to all these and many more, there is divine assurance, from the throne of Grace, which will guide us aright, so as to be successful in the various leadership positions we may find ourselves. I pray that our leadership will not be a reference point for evil deeds, in Jesus name, Amen! Amen!! Amen!!!
