The yet to be transformed believer – Part 1

The Lord wants all believers to possess profitable wisdom and freedom. These virtues are part of His numerous promises and provisions for His children who ask for them in prayer. King Solomon prayed for wisdom and received it graciously from the Lord, Who also added wealth and prosperity, knowledge and understanding to him. A visiting royalty, the Queen of Sheba, rightly understood and revealed in her assessment that Solomon’s rise to royalty, wisdom, wealth and peace could only be ascribed to God’s love, benevolence and purpose of promoting righteousness in Israel, which was then a fruitful and United Kingdom. 

Besides, King Solomon also had total freedom from foreign powers and generous contributions from them. “And all the kings of the earth sought the presence of Solomon, to hear his wisdom, that God had put in his heart. And they brought every man his present, vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and raiment, harness, and spices, horses, and mules, a rate year by year. And he reigned over all the kings from the river even unto the land of the Philistines, and to the border of Egypt.” 

The freedom, peace and submission of kings of other nations and the authority Solomon had over them lasted for a long time. With heaven’s blessings on him, there was no internal agitation or external aggression for him to confront. His prayer at the dedication of the temple anticipated that other nations would come to know the true God of Israel. With true freedom granted and divine wisdom bestowed on him, a great door of unprecedented opportunity was flung open before him. 

King Solomon could have organised classes, conferences or seminars to teach his people and inhabitants of other nations the wisdom of God, like Joseph and Moses used their freedom and wisdom for the benefit of God’s people, but he failed to do so. In our dispensation, God calls everyone to seek and obtain freedom and wisdom from Christ and use them for His glory.

God has promised to set everyone free from sin, sickness, evil spirits and satanic affliction. In fact, Jesus Christ incarnated to “save His people from their sins… and purify unto Himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works”. His promise to heal and set free from every form of infirmity and sickness has been from the Old Testament. “I will put none of these diseases upon thee… for I am the LORD that healeth thee.” The knowledge of salvation, sanctification, the power and baptism in the Holy Ghost, the promises and power of God set us free. 

Also, the truth of Scripture sets us free. “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” Christ came to make everyone “free indeed” not only from the clutches of external and inbred sins, but also from sicknesses. He came to “destroy the works of the devil” plaguing our lives. The Holy Spirit also liberates from every form of bondage and empowers us to overcome evil spirits and satanic attacks. 

Besides freedom, God has also promised to give believers wisdom. However, receiving divine wisdom is not automatic; everyone is required to ask for it in faith. “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God… in faith, nothing wavering.” We must not resign to fate or give excuse that we are not intelligent enough to seek divine wisdom. Rather, we should seek, possess, retain and apply the wisdom of God in our marriage, workplace, business, Christian life and ministry in the kingdom of God, so that our lives will be profitable. 

When King Solomon prayed for wisdom, he did not make a long prayer with days of fasting. He simply asked and within the short time his communion with God lasted, he received his request.
