You must correctly answer these questions, if you want to build a successful business and career. You must treat the person across the counter with respect, if you want him or her to keep coming.

Pastor David Adeoye

How do you view that person you are dealing with across the counter or table? Does he or she see you as a friend or as an enemy?

Are you really thoughtful and considerate of the people you are dealing with in business, or is your main focus on making the sale and reaping the benefit for yourself?

You must correctly answer these questions, if you want to build a successful business and career. You must treat the person across the counter with respect, if you want him or her to keep coming.

“…Whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.” (Matt.7: 12).

This is the Golden rule of life. You’ll always reap from whatever you sow (Gal.6: 7). If you want to be treated as a king, and you want people to be attracted to you, treat them as kings and queens.

Honesty and simple courtesy will go a long way toward improving your business and building a successful career for you. Sixty-eight percent of customers, who quit doing business with you, do so because of the way they were treated. Also, sixty eight percent of people that are sacked are because of their poor attitude to employers, co-workers or clients.

Your attitude to your employer, co-workers and clients will determine your life span in the company you work for. Your impact in the market place is determined by how well you treat your customers/clients.

Stop believing that rudeness in return to rude people is the answer. “A soft answer turns away wrath. But a harsh word stirs up anger” (Psalm 15: 1).
Stop making a “scene” in public places as are the manner of some.

Many business people don’t know that making serious efforts to be nice to people is good economic sense. Zig Ziglar said, “Losers think in terms of ‘replacing’ customers; winners think in terms of ‘maintaining’ customers and adding new ones in order to build the business bigger and better.”

If you want to have lasting success in your business/career and life, you must learn how to invest the same energy you invest in managing money, into managing and building healthy relationships. If you want to keep people around you and your business all the time, you must place value on people. You must rate people above profit.

Brian Tracy said, “Everything in life and business is relationship.” If this is the case, then you must give your best in making people around you feel good.

Only the customer-centred companies will stand the test of time in this highly competitive age. Your commitment to treating customers well will determine your relevance in today’s market place.

The ability to treat people well is one of the abilities employers look out for before they hire any employee, because once a person who is poor in relating with people is hired, he or she can cause a great deal of harm to the company.

Laws govern life. Every game has its rules. No matter who you are, whether you are tall or short, black or white, until you follow the laws of life you can’t make significant impact in life.

“Where there is no vision, the people perish…” (Prov. 29: 18). Someone once said, “Where there are no people, the vision perishes.” How well you can get along with people will determine how well it will be with you in business and in career. Theodore Roosevelt said, “The most important single ingredient in the formula of success is knowing how to get along with people.” So, if you want to do well in business, you must treat people well, because without people you might soon be out of business.

It might be difficult for you to rise higher in your career, if you have not learned how to treat people well. Most companies are ready to fire any of their staff that the customers are always complaining about. They are also ready to hire and pay much to anybody that treats their customers as kings and queens.

John D. Rockefeller said, “I will pay more in ability to deal with people than for any other ability under the sun.” The ability to treat people well is a “must have” for anyone who wants to be a front-liner in today’s business.

Making people feel important in your presence can make you magnetic to them. People always want to deal with anyone that treats them well. Abraham Lincoln said, “A drop of honey catches more flies than a gallon of gall.” If people can’t feel at home with you, they will not be attracted to you.

Learn to draw more attention to other people than to yourself, if you want to become the people’s person. People are always attracted to those who make them feel great.

Stop looking down on people, if you want to get to the top in business and career. No matter whom you are dealing with, let respecting and treating people well be one of your major goals in life.

Thomas Carlyle said, “A great man shows his greatness by the way he treats little men.” This is why arrogant people sometimes become stagnant in their vocation.

“A man who has friends, must himself be friendly…” (Prov.18: 24).

You must learn to develop your ability to manage positive relationships, because business is about relationships. Business is about winning people to your course. Abraham Lincoln said, “If you want to win a man to your course, first convince him that you are his sincere friend.”

Please note that you can’t treat people better than you can treat yourself. The way you treat others is simply a reflection of how you treat yourself. It will be difficult for you to love others if you don’t love yourself.

“…You shall love your neighbour as yourself.” (Gal.5: 14).

I know you are set for the top in business/career, even as you put this golden rule to work. I know in a process of time your impact in business will be more visible and tangible, as you obey this tested rules and formula for success. As you begin to sow the seed of being nice to people, you’ll begin to enjoy the harvest of bigger and better patronage.
