Obedience (2)

Memory Verse: “… if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all His commandments…, the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth.” Deuteronomy 28:1

Bible Passage: Deuteronomy 28:1-14

THERE is so much to gain by obeying God, that we really become our own worst enemy when we choose to disobey Him.

Obedience was the precursor of deliverance after more than 400 years of captivity. Lev. 26:13. Full, diligent obedience is not negotiable. Gal 5:1; Deut. 28:1, Isa. 1:19. Ex. 19:5. In obedience, your enemies become God’s enemies. Ex. 23:22. In obedience, excellent health is guaranteed. Ex.15: 26.

We can walk in the illustrious footsteps of the great patriarchs of old and relive their glorious experience with God.
• Abraham was blessed because he obeyed God in offering his only and greatly loved son of his old age, Isaac – Gen. 22:18; Gen. 26:5.
• The Rechabites obeyed their father’s instruction not to drink alcohol and God responded by blessing their entire lineage exclusively. – Jer. 35:1-19.
• For his total obedience to God, Joseph, against all odds became Prime Minister in a foreign land – Gen. 39:7-9; 41:14- 45.
• Paul’s unwavering dedication to his divine assignment led him to hearing and knowing things he could not even share. – Romans 1:5; 1Cor. 15:10; Rom. 16:26; 2Tim. 4:6-8.
• The ultimate example of course is The Lord Jesus. He humbled Himself and became obedient unto death – John 4:34; Phil 2:6-11

The hallmark of a true believer is a lifestyle of obedience from the heart. Obedience is not always easy, pleasant or convenient. But it always pays off – Phil. 2:5, 3John 2. You cannot go wrong with obedience or right with disobedience. The son, who said he would not obey but later changed his mind, was commended in contrast to the other son, who said he would but never did. You can be the third son, who will never have to repent from rebellion again in the mighty name of Jesus.
