Every thought has an agenda. It is your responsibility to deal with everything that wants to stop your destiny. Hebrews 12:1b says, lay it aside, and don’t tolerate it.

“Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Rom 12:2 says, “Renew your mind.”

You have to be deliberate in it. It hinders progress. When you handle what you are not matured to do, it will kill and destroy you.

Woe to thee, O land, when thy king is a child, and thy princes eat in the morning!
Blessed art thou, O land, when thy king is the son of nobles, and thy princes eat in due season, for strength, and not for drunkenness! Eccl 10:16-17 (KJV)

A country is in trouble when its king is a youth, and its leaders feast all night long. 17 But a country is fortunate to have a king who makes his own decisions and leaders who eat at the proper time, who control themselves and don’t get drunk. (Good News Translation)

“……. who controls themselves…..”

Emotional Intelligence
Emotional intelligence is described as the capacity to be aware of, control, and express one’s emotions and to handle interpersonal relationships judiciously and empathetically. Psychologists have linked personal and professional success in any field of endeavor to emotional intelligence; the ability to manage one’s emotions and the emotion of others. Emotional intelligence involves developing both self-awareness and social awareness.

Your emotional growth and maturity level can be determined by your honesty with yourself. Asking yourself sincere questions will make you advance and progress.

We define advancement as the ability to move forward in a purposeful way. That is, you have a focus, a purpose to achieve, and you intentionally set yourself up to the task. The ability to do a personal check on oneself enables you to know what you need to deal with. It brings about self-awareness and self-talk.

The first step is to be realistic enough; find out ones strength and weakness. What do I find so easy to do, what is my struggle, my weakness. An honest response takes one to self-awareness. What is the effect of your moods in taking decisions? And what could make others react, or behave the way they do towards you.

Even though you may call this a critical analysis of one’s personal development, but the purpose is not to judge oneself, but to help one take charge of one’s emotion with the aim of making progress in life.

There are different forms of thinking; destructive and constructive. This critical analysis is meant to move one, from being ignorant of the little foxes within one that spoil the vine. This is the second step. Take a break and pause. It is a school, a growth process. Understand why that person behaves that way, and don’t be quick to take permanent decisions as a result of temporal emotion. Gaining awareness makes you think better of yourself and others.
