Higher life in Christ

Text: Acts 8:26-39; Ephesians 4:17-18
Key Verse: John 1:4, “In him was life; and the life was the light of men.” (KJV)

Man is the only creation created in the class of God. Psalm 82:6, “I said, “You are gods, And all of you are children of the Most High.” Man was the only being God blessed out of all He created (Genesis 1:28). Man is the reason for creation and when man goes out of place, everything is disrupted.

Eternal life is a miracle, and it is only possible through the New Birth. What is New Birth? Jesus said to Nicodemus in John 3:3, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” New Birth is a spiritual transformation/regeneration that takes place in the life of anyone who accepts the salvation gift of God to be saved from his/her sins.

Except your spirit is recreated by new birth in Christ, you will not have the capacity to house God or live the God kind of life. John 1:5, “And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.” The God kind of life is the life that stands out in any environment it finds itself. It is the life that shines in darkness, that is, a life that says no to living in sin, even when everyone around is doing so.

Eternal life is a higher life in Christ given by new birth. God is eternal and He is “Eternal Life” personified. When you receive Christ as a gift into your life, you have the life, which is in God called Eternal Life and that life you received is the light of men.

It is the life of God that makes us shining lights to the dying world, which is filled with darkness. It is His life that produces the light and when you have not received God’s life in you, you will be living in darkness.
Eternal life is God impacting His very nature and being into the Human Spirit. When God’s nature is impacted in a person, such a person begins to live in God’s dimension.

Ignorance of the higher life in Christ is the devil’s strategy to keep people in perpetual bondage and darkness. Psalm 82:5, “They do not know, nor do they understand; They walk about in darkness; All the foundations of the earth are unstable.” As a result of people’s lack of understanding, the foundation of their marriage, business, career, work, etc. are out of course. The Gentiles walked in the vanity of their minds because their understanding was darkened (Ephesians 4:17-18).

Men loved darkness because their deeds are evil. John 3:19-20, “And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For everyone practising evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.”

Jesus came to earth to show men how to live God’s dimension of life and higher life in Christ. John 10:10, “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” The life of God is eternal life – spiritual life and not the natural breath of life. Nicodemus was thinking, breathing, feeling and acting but yet spiritually dead and that was why Jesus told him that he needs the God kind of life – being Born Again, the New Birth.

One of the ways to have the God kind of life in you is through knowledge. Luke 24:45, “And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures.” My prayer for you today is that the eyes of your spiritual understanding be opened that you may know the riches of the glorious inheritance that we have in Christ Jesus, Amen.
