LAGOS Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women Organisation (LACCWO), last Sunday, organised a fundraising ceremony to build a skill acquisition centre in Lagos.

Held at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church, Lekki Phase 1, Rev. Francis Isola Ogunmodede representing Most Rev. Dr, Alfred Adewale Martins, commended the women group, while calling on other groups in the church to emulate them.

Welcoming guests, the chairperson and grand patroness of the group, Mrs. Clementina Abike Doregos, called on members to support the project in cash, as well as bring materials, saying that doing this will not only make them leave lasting legacy, but help make some people acquire skills that would enable them fend for themselves and contribute to the development of the country and church.

The president of the group, Mrs. Esther Izokpu, while explaining the reason for embarking on the project said the vision was borne out of the desire to equip women, youths and the less privileged in the society with skills that would make them employer of labour instead of job seekers.

She noted that government alone cannot provide everything for the citizens and that is why organisations help equip the citizens, revealing that the centre will have sections that will mentor people on vocational trade, creative enterprise, development and adult literacy among others. She called on well-meaning Nigerians and organisations to key into the vision.

Encouraging the group never to relent on their vision, especially as it is in its second edition, Rev. Fr. Patrick Obayomi said women have a great stake in nation building and as such, other women should rally round them to make the vision a success.
