Key Verse: Joshua 3:5, “And Joshua said unto the people, Sanctify yourselves: for tomorrow the Lord will do wonders among you.” (KJV)

As the children of Israel were wondering in their minds how to cross River Jordan having lodged before Jordan for three days, God spoke to Joshua to tell his people to sanctify themselves because tomorrow the Lord will do great wonders among them.

It is not your responsibility to worry about what your life will become tomorrow, that which concerns you is to consecrate yourself today and God will do wonders tomorrow. Entire consecration is what God requires of us today. Whatever your life shall become is predicated upon the level of consecration.

For God to work in His people, His people must be inwardly clean and aligned to His will. There are two types of consecration:
. Separation from
. Separation to

The two types of consecration cannot stand on its own. The two must stand together to ensure entire consecration.

We are to separate from sin, evil companionship, evil deeds and everything that does not project the nature of God in our lives. We must separate ourselves from sinful association, which is being tied to people who do not bother about Godliness; any association that is not bringing you any closer to God; any association which does not inspire you to God and any association that will take you away from what God wants you to be.

Evil association sometimes assumes the form of innocence but the truth is that it takes you away from the way of God. You must separate from worldly concerns and its affairs that hinder you from thinking about Heaven. The evil world is under Satan’s domain and that is why Jesus called Satan the Prince of this World. We are warned against ungodliness because the world has its own standard, values and norms. You are to separate yourself from sin and the world. You need to go further to separate yourself from self-ego, which is separation from self. Separation from self means separation from self-will, self-love and self-aggrandizement. Self-love is making yourself idol, loving yourself more than God. Self-love relegates God to secondary place in your life. Self-aggrandizement is showing yourself more than God. God must increase, and you must decrease. You cannot tell the world how great God is and also how wonderful you are.

Separation from sin is not complete in itself without separation unto God. Separation to God is a conscious act. It is a daily and conscious walk with God. It is not something that you do under a powerful message or emotions.

Separation to God is separation to what God wants you to be and to God’s purpose for your life. Separation to God is like telling God not to spare you of any pain that will make you the person God wants you to be.

Separation to God is a total sell out of one self and will to God. It is not half hazard surrender to God. It is total surrender to God. It is allowing God to fully control the centre of your heart. It means not having any choice of your own; you will only do what God chooses for you and putting your personal will under God’s will. At this point, you are no longer yours but His.

Separation to God is a conscious surrender of oneself to God. It is an outright and whole sell out to God. Separation to God requires you to be pierced like a slave. The hole in the ear of the slaves means I am not marketable and available but sold out eternally to my Master (Exodus 21:1-6). At this point the slave moves from a regular slave to a bond slave having served his tenure for six years.
For your consecration to be total and complete you must be willing to surrender your ears to be pierced by Jesus, which is a mark of separation to God.
