To tackle the rising cases of rape, gender-based violence and other forms of human abuse, the Christian Media Foundation (CMF), a faith-based media organisation, has indicated support for victims and canvassed capital punishment for offenders.

The Executive Director, Gracious Akintayo, said rape is inhuman and ungodly, describing rapists as callous and wicked people, who destroy futures and disorientate destinies.

Lamenting the increase in reported cases of rape and other forms of domestic violence in the society, he said CMF was worried about the scourge that is fast becoming a menace in the society.

Akintayo said: “The most painful is the alarming rate at which the future of innocent girl-children are being abused, disoriented and damaged. It is a precarious situation of bad signal and decaying morals in our society. All hands must be on deck and efforts should be made to decimate this ravaging satanic act.”

He urged government and other concerned stakeholders to rise to the challenge before further damages are done to the already decaying society and future generation. “Every girl-child will become a sister, wife, mother, leader and woman tomorrow,” he said, adding, “they, therefore, deserve to be respected and protected from any form of abuse or violence.”

He recommended public enlightenment, seminars and other forms of education to discourage and prevent such evil acts.
He admonished parents to go extra mile to inculcate moral training, godly value and diligent character in their children, especially teaching the boys how to respect and appreciate girls.

“They should closely monitor their children’s character, language, appearance, friends, social media use, music they listen to and the film they watch to avoid untoward lifestyle,” he said.
