As part of activities to mark this year’s celebration of Easter, the Fountain of Hope (FOH) Society of the Archbishop Vining Memorial Church Cathedral (AVMCC) hosted the 11th edition of Easter Cantata, last Sunday.

The event featured classical music performances from AVMCC Choir and the orchestra. There were also special performances by children choir of AVMCC, FOH voices, Youth Choir and by Ayan Jesu.

Speaking on the event, Chairman of 2016 Easter Cantata committee, Mr. Femi Tejuoso, said the programme was a compilation of several music and recitals to celebrate the ascension of Jesus Christ.

“Retired Bishop Peter Adebiyi set up the Easter Cantata in 2005 and the FOH has been the organisers of this for 11 executive years,” he said.

But it was not just a musical event. It was an opportunity to discuss the essence of the programme — the risen Jesus Christ.

Chair of the event, Mr. Muyiwa Kupoluyi, who was accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Christy Kupoluyi, said nothing was too small to celebrate Christ, adding, “the resurrection of Christ is spectacular, it is something that had never been done, it defines our faith and why we are gathered here.”

According to him, Thomas’ doubt was the only physical evidence of the resurrection of Christ.

Dean of the Cathedral Ven. Abel Ajibodu, in a short exhortation, spoke on serving and celebrating Christ with sincerity. He urged, “You must engage in self-examination within the church, rebuke sinners.”

President of FOH, Mr. Femi Olutayo thanked the Bishop for the positive transformation he was bringing to the Diocese especially at bringing the youths back to the right track.

Among those who attended the programme were the Lord Bishop of Diocese of Lagos West, Rt. Revd. James Olusola Odedeji and wife, Mrs. Lydia, special guest of honour, Mr Mallinson Ukatu, FOH Patron, Chief and Mrs. Olusegun Osunkeye.
