Challenging the status quo

Text: 2 Kings 7:3 – 11
Key Verse: 2 Kings 7:3, “…and they said one to another, Why sit we here until we die?” (KJV)

The question, “Why sit here until we die?” is one of the most profound questions asked by Man in the Bible. This is so, because procrastination is the thief of time. Man’s greatest need is to recognise his position (physically that he is dying – spiritually that he is separated from God by his sins). The Bible asked a pertinent question in Romans 6:1 and it says … Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?

If you don’t like your lot in life, keeping quiet about it will never change it. Getting irritated and becoming envious of others will even worsen your plight. If you don’t like the way things are with you, there is something you can do to change it. Status quo simply means the current state of things in your life. It also means your present situation. Your present situation could be an ugly one. You can change your present situation by challenging the status quo. This is exactly what the four lepers did to get themselves out of a severe famine in Israel, which was caused by their sins and wickedness. These four leprous men realised that they had but three (3) choices: Verse 4

• If we say, we will enter into the city, then the famine is in the city, and we shall die there (they had contacted a killer disease called leprosy. Leprosy is a type of sin, which kills slowly).

• If we sit still here, we die also (Their plight brought them to their senses just like the prodigal son – Luke 15:17-19).
• Now, therefore, come, and let us fall unto the host of the Syrians: if they save us alive, we shall live; and if they kill us, we shall but die (they had only one way to go, and that is to go to the camp of Syrians. The only way out of your sin and problem is running only to the Lord Jesus Christ. When you run to God, what will you find? You will find that God is not a judge to condemn you, but a friend to help you out from your sins and problems. You will find riches in Christ beyond all that you could ask or think).

They four leprous men took four steps that turned their fortunes around. Firstly, they decided to forget their past because there is no future in the past. And they refused going back to it. Secondly, they became discontented with their present. They became very uncomfortable with the condition they saw themselves in. Hunger and lack had terribly dealt with them. Thirdly, they did not bother about blaming anybody for their plight. They didn’t care to take stock of who refused to help them. And fourthly, they decided to invest their future. Their concern was to move forward with their lives even if it amounts taking risks. They stretched themselves forward in spite of their disabilities. The result was amazing.

God amplified the sound of every step they took and their enemies ran away and deserted their camps. Then came their success stories. Do not remain in that situation till you die. Speak healing to that sickness. Invest in that business. Undertake that education pursuit and God will crown your efforts with success. God is waiting for you to step out with an action that will catapult you to a better future.
Today’s Nugget: Take a bold step to change your status quo.
