Character Is Crucial For Success!

“The Measure of a Man’s Real Character Is What He Would Do, If He Knew He Would Never Be Found Out,” – Macaulay

We need “two strong legs” to run effectively and finish well. One of them is competence and the other is character. Both are very important in the school of success. Joseph, in the book of Genesis, is a perfect example of a man of character. He revered and honoured God – this was the umpire that kept him from sin and recklessness as he constantly weighed his actions through the spectacles of God’s feelings.

The word of God offers guidelines for proper living and character formation. When we obey God’s word, we develop a genuine respect and healthy fear of Him. The man who fears God is positioning himself for success because as the Bible says, “promotion comes from God.” He rules over the affairs of men – enthroning or dethroning kings.

Some years ago, the Lord began to teach me, about His fear (a healthy regard for Him and His word). God began dealing with me about ministry and the need for one to have a genuine fear of Him.

At this point, I will like to share some words He spoke to me a few years ago.
“My people take me for granted. They conduct themselves as if nobody sees them. They do not have my fear. That is the reason why their carcasses are spread for the fowls of the air in the wilderness. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. The fear of God is to depart from evil and obey my instructions with utmost reverence.

I can turn a Cornelius into an Apostle, a shepherd boy into a great king and billionaire, and also turn a great king (Nebuchadnezzar) into an animal overnight. Remember that I see all you do even though nobody sees it. I see all things whether GOOD or EVIL and I am one that will report to the world, what you do in secret. I am no respecter of persons, I reward those who fear me…”

Without the fear of God, character cannot be formed and success can turn to an overnight failure. The fear of God is a tool for character formation, it is the oil that helps us sustain success. This is the secret that keeps great men and women humble and teachable.

It is the same secret that helps me forgive someone who hurts me knowing that God willingly forgives me anytime I hurt Him. When we obey God, His word shapes our actions and consequently our character. Today, ask yourself this question: Do I really fear God? Do I consider His word or feelings before I take a step? True character is formed when we follow God’s word. Joshua 1:8 says, “And don’t for a minute let this Book of The Revelation be out of mind… Ponder and meditate on it day and night, making sure you practice everything written in it… then you’ll succeed” MSG Translation.

Confession
God I acknowledge you are great. I see that the fear of You and the healthy regard for Your word is the beginning of wisdom. From today I choose to respect and revere You and allow Your word build me and influence my actions so that I may enjoy good success in Jesus name.
