Hoodlums in their numbers have sacked the entire Catholic parish community in Awara, in Ohaji/Egbema Local Council of Imo state, displacing members of the church to the Internally Displaced Persons Camps (IDPs) in the area.

Catholic Archbishop of Owerri Eclesiastic Province, Dr. Anthony J. V. Obinna, who disclosed this to The Guardian, in Owerri while delivering his Christmas message, said, himself with the assistance from some parishes have raised about 20 bags of rice and other food items released to the IDPs.

He said through the church’s programme-’’Share the pain, Share the Joy’ that he took the decision to come to the aid of members of his church who were devastated by the crisis that arose since June by the militants in the area, leaving many without homes and church.

He said: ‘‘this is one of the cries for help from the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), who were devastated in the Awara Catholic parish. We want to bring the spirit of Christmas to those people who have been devastated since June.’’

Obinna, who quoted some portions in the Bible to support his claim, urged well to -do Nigerians to help the needy in society during the period, urging the governments and employers to pay their workers on time during the period.

The cleric, urged governments to use the occasion and spend modestly by channelling the funds to humans who should eat food and remain alive.
‘’If the people die, the state remains a wilderness. Roads and monuments are meant for human beings’’.
