The best way to follow God’s will for your life is to listen to Him daily. It is very important in our walk with God to know His voice, so as to be receptive to His call, and to identify when He is speaking to us.

To hear from God, you must believe that He cares about the details of your life. God knows every hair on your head (Mathew 10:30). Love is God’s character and it is not based on your behaviour. God cares to speak to you about every detail of your life.

God is interested in your life and would want to answer your questions (James 1:5-6). God does not play game with His will for your life and He is willing to reveal His will to you when you ask. You have not because you didn’t ask. God’s storehouse is always open to you, but you shut your mouth. We are commanded to ask. You must believe that God is willing to answer your questions. God is more willing to talk to you than you are willing to listen. The more specific your question is to God, the more you hear God speak to you.

In 1 Samuel Chapter 3, Samuel heard his name called. He went to Eli, the High Priest, assuming he was the one that Called. He heard his name called again the second and third time and he ran to Eli. Eli discerned that was the voice of God calling Samuel. So, Eli told Samuel, “Go and lie down, and if He calls you, say, ‘Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.’”

It is important to note that God is more interested in speaking to you directly than through a prophet. If the primary way of seeking God’s voice is by listening to the voice of a popular prophet, I guarantee you that you will be misled. God first spoke to Samuel but Eli confirmed it. Eli did not initiate the call. Eli confirmed to Samuel that what he had been hearing all along was God’s voice. It is called the Spirit testimony. The spirit testimony is an outward confirmation of God’s will, where He uses someone else through the gift of the Spirit, for example, word of knowledge and word of prophecy to confirm what God said to you before.

Many times, people consider the “Spirit Testimony” as the voice of God and go to prophets to ask them to tell them what God is saying. God does not lead us from outside us but from inside us. Whatever somebody is saying outside you was already being deposited in your spirit. The Bible says, “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit …” (Romans 8:14&16a). The Bible says, “By this we know the Spirit of truth and the spirit of error…” (1 John 4:6b)

The Bible warns us not to believe every spirit but test the spirit to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world (1 John 4:1).If you want to know God, you must learn how to walk with the Holy Spirit on the inside. Fellowship with the Holy Spirit is our spiritual currency and it transports us to God’s presence. The Holy Spirit is the One who helps us to know God.
