Government introduces discriminatory fees in ABSU

Abia State government has introduced discriminatory school fess in favour of Abia State indigenes in the state university.

About N100,000 is presently paid, as school fess in the university per year. This varies from department to department, as well as courses.

The commissioner for Information, Bonnie Iwuoha, while announcing this in Umuahia did not say new school fess have been introduced in Abia State University (ABSU), Uturu.

He disclosed that students of Abia origin will pay N10,000 less of what obtains as school fees per year, while non-indigenes would pay fully.

According to him, to qualify for the discriminated fees, indigenes shall produce their parent or guardian’s Tax Payment Certificates.

Other decisions, he said the State Exco approved were the immediate relocation of the Faculties of Law and Humanities from Uturu main Campus to Umuahia and the new faculty of Engineering to Aba, when the Aba Campus facilities are ready.

He also gave an update on the state free school meal saying that the result from its pilot operation in three schools each selected from each of the three senatorial zones of the state was successful and will soon be effected statewide  but remarked that the success has also resulted to increase in primary school enrollment in the state.
