The gospel is the good news or message that the righteous and offended God Has declared pardon and offered friendship, even sonship, to offenders (His enemies) by virtue of the atoning death and resurrection of Jesus Christ if only they will accept the offer. Man does not need to continue in his state of rebellion that draws God’s wrath on him (John 3:36). God offers him terms of peace and eternal life to go with it. Man does not need to go to Hell where the justice of God has doomed all sinners (Romans 5:6-10; John 1:12).

The gospel is that the righteous Judge of the earth who righteously pronounced all men guilty of sin and convicted them to Hell (Romans 3:23; 6:23) has provided His perfect Son, the very God (Philippians 2:6-8), to pay the full price for our redemption from sin (Romans 3:24-26).

Bells have been used throughout history for all kinds of occasions – for worship, for war, for peace, to warn of danger, to sound an alarm, to announce death, to proclaim liberty, to celebrate joy, to tell the time, to make music, just to name a few. Bells have also had a long history of being used to sound out an alarm or a warning. Lepers in ancient times would sound a bell as well as shout out UNLCEAN when the healthy would come near.

The clarion call from Jesus to believers in Christ Jesus is to ring the gospel bell. Now a warning is not a bad thing – it is a good thing. Warning informs you of an impending danger so that you don’t run into it. For example, a Doctor informing you that your cholesterol level and blood pressure is too high is to warn you of the possibility of having a heart attack. The purpose is to make you take the necessary medical steps to arrest the impending danger of heart attack.

In the same way we as God’s people have the responsibility to sound out the alarm to the world around us that while God certainly is a God of love and mercy – he is also a Holy God, a righteous God, a God of justice who hates sin and evil. He is a moral God who has built into the very fabric of His creation the law of sowing and reaping and we cannot just flaunt His laws without reaping the consequences. Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

The outcome of the choices we make is not always immediately experienced. God judged the world in the days of Noah – but the flood did not come suddenly and unexpectedly. There was a build up to it of 100 years as Noah built the ark and people had the opportunity to hear the alarm and see the warning.

The writer of Hebrews states in chapter 10: “If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God. Anyone who rejected the Law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. Haven’t you heard the gospel more than two or three times?

The gospel bell is ringing far and wide today calling you to turn away from your sins and accept the gift of salvation so that your soul will not perish in Hell. The purpose of ringing this gospel bell is so that you will be saved from the agony of spending eternity in Hell.Today’s Nugget: The purpose of ringing the Gospel Bell is to save sinners from Hell, Prayer: I heed to the warning of the gospel bell, Amen.
