Public-relations

Are you a good mixer, someone whose presence could easily be felt when he/she is not around? Do you have the charm to convince people of both sex, even those you are meeting for the first time, to do your bidding? If your answers are in the affirmative, then you have what it takes to make money for yourself as a student. You can work as a public relations person for some companies, including clubs. All they need from their potential recruit is a good mixing habit that would attract people to their brand.

Companies, big and small, as well as some specialised clubs are ready to pay students good money, as brand ambassadors to promote their products within and outside the campus.

Doing this, they go for people, especially students who know the terrains of their community very well, can effectively express themselves in both English and the language of their host community can work at their leisure and are also able to pull crowd anywhere they go.

Aside having the attributes, it would not be out place to say such characters must know how to dress well; know when to wear a particular attire and colours, and also be well acquainted with the people’s culture.

Picking up a job like this also means familiarising oneself with the various social media platforms such as, Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp and others, to enable one further attract and invite people outside your regular circle of friends to club events or introduce them to the product(s) one is promoting.

Most firms would want to see your Facebook profile when engaging you; so, the more people in your circle of friends, the greater the chances of being selected. One may ask what has social media got to do with it? The answer is simply because public relations is having a good impact on people. You come in contact with different people. So, it is assumed that for one to successfully have a large following, he/she must have a friendly and tolerable spirit that endears him/her to people of different character traits. Such a person is often regarded as a bridge builder or a good team player.

However, while anticipating to get fixed in one outfit, thinking you could earn some money, going to places and meeting people on regular basis, it would be right to know that some outfits prefer their ambassadors to take their products to fun centres, hotels, religious camps, night gatherings, which entails keeping late nights. In case you are engaged and this is not spelt out; please ask. This does not mean there are no day time activities, perhaps visiting welfare homes, markets, schools and others. It all depends on your reference.

One good thing about students PR job is that it helps those who are interested in career in marketing, as it would help them build contacts, which could be of use after school.
