Okpara varsity graduates vet doctors, as VCN administers oath

The Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN), yesterday, administered Veterinary Oath to Veterinary Medicine graduates of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), Abia State.

The oath taking ceremony, which was the third so far in the school served as provisional admission of the graduands into the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA).

Campusnews gathered that out of 40 that were admitted for the six-year DVM programme, only the 10 graduated after the rigorous training in the 2014/2015 session. Dr. Jessica Ifunanya Ukwueze emerged the overall best graduate.

VCN Registrar, Dr. A. M. Avog, speaking on behalf of VCN President Prof. G. H. Sharubutu charged graduands to practice the profession in line with its ethics, which entail using scientific knowledge and skills for the benefit of the society, preventing animal diseases, relieve animal suffering, improve animal production, promote public health and advance veterinary knowledge

MOUAU VC, Prof. Francis Otunta, commended VCN and NVMA for meticulously following MOUAU training programme and monitoring its professional examinations from inception to ensure that the school produces quality veterinary medicine graduates.

In his address, the dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine, Prof. Maxwell Ezeja, said the first set of graduates of 2011/2012 had to write the VCN registration examination at Abuja in April 2013 due to accreditation issues.

He, however, expressed worry that up till now, the result of that accreditation visit is still not known and that it has kept both the college and the school authority uncomfortable.
