After 19 years of marriage, Bishop Agbo and wife celebrate miraculous babies

Saturday, February 8, 2020 was a memorable day for the Anglican Bishop of Nsukka, Rt. Rev. Aloysius Agbo and his wife, who gathered friends, relatives and well-wishers at St. Paul’s Cathedral Nsukka, to join them in thanksgiving to God and celebration for Divine gift of babies, after about 19 years of marriage.

Sharing his experience and God’s faithfulness before the congregation, Bishop Agbo said after their marriage in April 2001, their expectation of a child did not come through for many years, despite medications and prayers. He wondered why God, Who had been answering his prayers for other people would not answer his own.

At a point, he said, he lost hope of ever having a biological child and even stopped praying on the matter, until God suddenly blessed them with a triplet – two boys and a girl. He appreciated all friends who came to rejoice with him and his wife, when the babies were born on October 4, 2019 and those who were at the thanksgiving service.

The Bishop of Kebbi and Emeritus Archbishop of Kaduna, Most Rev. Edmund Akanya, who preached at the thanksgiving service, described the occasion as opportunity to declare God’s greatness and power.

Taking his text from Habakkuk 3:17f, the cleric said if Christians depend on God, they would see the manifestation of His power. He noted that despite the challenges the couple faced, they still remain committed to the joyful service of God.

The Archbishop urged Christians to live by faith and not by sight, and that whatever anyone is passing through; the only hope of surviving is by being just and looking unto God.

“It is the Faith and trust in God that has kept your Bishop going all this while, and God visited him at His own time. So, will He visit all who entrust themselves unto His hands and live by faith,” he said.

The former Archbishop of Enugu Province, Most Revd. Madu prayed for the Bishop’s family while the incumbent Archbishop of Enugu, Most Revd. Dr. Emmmanuel Chukwuma dedicated the miracle babies. He urged people to always disregard gossips and move ahead to live by faith.

About 20 Archbishops and Bishops, government officials, including the Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and the Chief Judge of Enugu State, Hon. Justice Ngozi P. Emehelu, 200 clergy, academicians, traditional rulers and people from all walks of life graced the occasion.
