The first 16 of 18 spots in the annual Hero World Challenge were announced Wednesday, with Tiger Woods, Gary Woodland and Jon Rahm among the players set to compete December 4 to 7 at Albany in the Bahamas, reports Sportingnews.com.

Woods, a five-time Masters champion, who will serve as tournament host, will be joined by seven of the eight players, who have already qualified for the U.S. Presidents Cup team that he is set to captain the following week at Royal Melbourne Golf Club in Australia.

There will be two more exemptions added at a later date, but the list of 16 players in the field so far includes Dustin Johnson (U.S), Justin Rose (England), Justin Thomas, (U.S), Jon Rahm (Spain), Patrick Cantlay (U.S.) and
Tiger Woods (U.S.).

Also in the list are Xander Schauffele (U.S), Bryson DeChambeau (U.S.), Tony Finau (U.S), Webb Simpson (U.S.), Patrick Reed (U.S), Gary Woodland (U.S.), Rickie Fowler (U.S), Matt Kuchar (U.S.), Bubba Watson (U.S) and Kevin Kisner (U.S.).
Some potential captain’s picks could include Phil Mickelson and Jordan Spieth, though Kevin Na and Matthew Wolff are also possibilities.

Woods is recovering from arthroscopic surgery on his left knee but is set to return to competition later this month in Japan.

Meanwhile, Woods and his business entity, TGR Ventures, have entered into a “strategic partnership” with PopStroke Entertainment Group that will see the 15-time major champion begin designing putting courses for the golf and entertainment company, reports yahoo.com.

PopStroke currently has one location open in Port St. Lucie, Fla., with two other locations currently under development. The concept utilizes the food and drink options currently seen at full-range franchises like TopGolf and DriveShack and instead marries it with professionally-designed putting courses.

“Some of my happiest memories are spending time with my pops on the golf course having putting contests,” Woods said in a release. “I’m looking forward to others enjoying time with their kids at PopStroke. This is a new way for individuals to experience the game of golf. It’s about bringing people together.”

According to the release, Woods and TGR Ventures will be responsible for designing the putting courses at all future locations. PopStroke also plans to release a technology enhancement that will allow scores to be electronically transmitted from the ball to a player’s phone app and will facilitate competition “in a dynamic, social and tournament environment.”
