Organizers of the first West and Central Africa Golf Clubs Championship have revealed that the 2016 edition of the competition will hold at the Le Meridien Hotel and Golf Resort, Uyo, from April 27 May 2, 2016.

A statement signed by Secretary General of West Africa Amateur golf Association, Abel Edinomo, explained that the West and Central Africa Clubs Championship was created to accelerate golf development and its sustainability, increase the business of Golf Tourism in the sub-region, train significant number of youths and golf course workers, especially Green keepers, for improved services and maintenance cost effectiveness in managing golf facilities, under the harsh sunny and heavy tropical rain weather condition
Edinomo revealed that 50 clubs from over 14 countries from the sub-region would participate in this event, adding that the championship will also include a three-day workshop with focus on:

• Developing strategy for African Golf solution and saving cost;
• Public/Private partnership strategy for youth golf enterprise development;
• Leveraging golf as a niche tourism product to grow domestic and international tourism;
• Building and sustaining the positive impact from golf industry on local communities by means of development;
• Developing the required skill that drive enterprise development and job creation opportunities; and,
• Education in all allied Golf business.

Edinomo, who is also a member of the (AGS) Africa Golf Summit, revealed that resource persons at the workshop and training would be experts from Silver Lakes Academy, Golf Consultants Association, Africa Golf Summit Members, South Africa Tourism Board and others.

He added that they expect over 250 participants and about 3,000 people to visit the event during the four-day Championship, adding that the event will be an annual event for development.
