The World boxing Council (WBC) has voted unanimously in favour of a title elimination fight in the heavyweight division under the WBC rules, reports talksport.com.

The fight will see Dillian Whyte against American heavyweight, Dominic Breazeale, with the winner getting the mandatory chance to face the winner of the Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury rematch.

Whyte has built up his standing in the heavyweight division with triumphs over Lucas Browne, Joseph Parker and Dereck Chisora in 2018.

The British heavyweight and Breazeale have each only lost one fight in their professional career, both losing to Anthony Joshua.

Shortly after the announcement, Whyte took to Twitter to share his excitement.

The 30-year-old had been in negotiations for a rematch with Joshua at Wembley but both are pursuing other options with ‘AJ’ set to fight American Jarrell Miller at Madison Square Garden, New York in June.

Whyte suffered a knockout defeat by Joshua in December 2015, while Breazeale lost to the IBF, WBO and WBA belt holder six months later.

However, both fighters have responded well to defeat with the Brixton-born Whyte boasting a win record to 25-1, while Breazeale has a win record of 20-1.
