Former Federal Commissioner for Information, Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark says the maiden Warri Peace Marathon, which holds this Saturday, is key to peaceful coexistence amongst the people, not only in Warri, but the entire Niger Delta region.

Over 500 athletes from different parts of the region have already signed on to the race, which is backed by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) and supported by Delta State government.

Clark, a lawyer, administrator, Ijaw national leader, a nationalist, a freedom fighter and leader, South-South Peoples Assembly, said the 10km race would promote peaceful coexistence, which is more needed in the Niger Delta region at the moment.

He commended the organizer for what he described as ‘novel idea,’ adding that is completely in support of the race.“I wish to place on record that Peace is a commodity which is presently in short supply in our beloved Niger Delta Region of Nigeria in general and Warri-Effurun cities of our Delta State in particular. The hosting of the maiden Warri Peace marathon is a very welcome development in the pursuit of peaceful coexistence amongst our people,” he stated.

He praised Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and AFN President Chief Solomon Ogba for endorsing the event. The 10km race will start at Airport Road on Saturday and terminate at the Warri Township Stadium.Meanwhile, top officials of AFN are expected to arrive Warri today ahead of Saturday’s event.

Rubbish!! This just shows how far removed the so-called leaders are from their people. Chief Clark clearly has lost touch with reality. The boys engaged in the violence in the Niger Delta will not care less whether a marathon is organised or not. In fact they are more likely to look for ways to steal, rob, or even kidnap some persons for ransom during the event. Furthermore, they are more likely to see the event as an avenue by senior government officials to steal public money rather than one meant to bring peace. Are the participants members of the militant groups? How many members of these groups are actually participating?

Clarke is a Tribalist who never saw anything wrong during the reigns of his God son.
All the treasury looting happened under his watch.Which peace is he talking about when he is the main backer of Niger delta militants.
