Two Aston Villa’s players ‘fight’ during West Ham clash

Anwar El Ghazi appeared to try and headbutt his own Aston Villa team-mate Tyrone Mings during his side’s clash against West Ham yesterday.

Mings was furious with the winger for failing to track back as the Hammers broke in a counter-attack. But the Dutchman was having none of it and the pair proceeded to engage in a heated argument.

El Ghazi then appeared to try and headbutt Mings before the pair were separated by midfielder, Marvelous Nakamba.

Incredibly, VAR then had to check whether there should be a red card involved, but it was not deemed to be a sending-off offence. But referee Mike Dean did have a word of warning for both before the match carried on.

The official had another word with El Ghazi after blowing the whistle for half-time as well, appearing to tell the pair ‘you’re in the same team’.

And John Terry, Villa’s assistant manager, did not seem impressed with his players as the Sky Sports camera’s spanned to him shaking his head in the dugout.

The incident did not quite reach the level of the infamous altercation between Lee Bowyer and Kieron Dyer, who had a fight during a match for Newcastle against Villa in 2005 but will no doubt be of concern to Villa boss Dean Smith.

Yesterday’s game ended goallessly.
