Portugal’s Shao Jieni Outclasses Nigeria’s Effiom

Top-seeded stars in the male and female categories of the Nigeria Open yesterday made their way to the next round of the championship at the Molade Okoya Thomas Hall of the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere.

In the men’s singles, second seed, Segun Toriola defeated Alexandru Cazacu 2-4, just as fourth-seeded Lashin El-Sayed of Egypt dismissed Spelbus Alin 4-1 in a no contest match. Egypt’s Khalid Assar defeated Suraju Saka of Congo 4-2.

In the female category, No 1 ranked Portugal’s Shao Jieni showed no mercy to Nigeria’s Janet Effiom 4-1 to advance to the next round. Other qualifiers include Chramko Olga who submitted to the firepower of Edem Offiong 0-4.

Funke Oshonaike beat Portugal’s Oliveira Leila 4-1, while Sarah Hanffou of Cameroun dismissed Akpan Cecilia 4-2. Olga Kulikova of Russia beat Ajoke Ojomu 4-0, just as Szandra Pergel of Hungary walloped Tatiana Garnova of Russia 4-2.

In the Women’s Doubles, the pair of Funke Oshonaike and Sarah Hanffou beat Russia’s Garnova and Tatiana Rossikhina Anna 3-0, while Akpan Cecilia and Edem Offiong lost to the pair of Russia’s Irina Ermakova and Anna Rossikhina.
